Alcaraz and Rahm teamed up for nine holes at the Club de Campo Villa de Madrid. The 22-year-old was all smiles as he teed off on Wednesday morning.
The 2023 Masters champion is a big Alcaraz fan and has watched him in action on the tennis court. So it was only right that Alcaraz returned the favour on the golf course.
Rahm previously told Fox: “How do I put this? He’s not a god – he’s a demigod. He’s surely on that path. I don’t think anybody expected this.
“As [Rafael] Nadal is coming to an end of his career, to all of a sudden, overnight, Carlos shows up and becomes the greatest next star. It’s so interesting.
“All of a sudden, you go from Nadal with 22 Grand Slams and has accomplished all these great things, boom. Two years later, this guy has four. It’s absolutely insane.
“Can’t say enough good things about him. You got a guy that carries himself well, very charismatic. He’s absolute fire on the court and somebody that definitely provides a lot of entertainment. It’s quite special.”
Alcaraz now has six Slam titles, adding to his trophy cabinet at the French Open and US Open this year. During his run to the US Open title, he played golf on most of his days off and celebrated his seven match wins by miming a golf swing.
Sergio Garcia was also in Alcaraz’s box for most of the tournament, and the world No. 1 revealed that Garcia owed him £150 ($200) for losing their round at the private Deepdale Golf Club on Long Island.
Alcaraz joined forces with David Puig while his coach, Juan Carlos Ferrero, who is a former world No. 1 and Grand Slam champion, played with Garcia. And the six-time Grand Slam champion can now add another partner to his list after teaming up with Rahm in Madrid.
The 22-year-old is currently enjoying some time off after injuring his ankle at the Japan Open a couple of weeks ago. Alcaraz decided to play on and went on to lift the trophy in Tokyo before deciding to skip Shanghai.
“I’m very disappointed to announce that I won’t be able to play the Rolex Shanghai Masters this year,” Alcaraz wrote on Instagram
“Unfortunately, I’ve been struggling with some physical issues and, after discussing with my team, we believe the best decision is to rest and recover. I was really looking forward to playing in front of the amazing fans in Shanghai again. I hope to be back soon and see my Chinese fans next year.”
