Kaye urged people to make sure that their windows are dry “down well” to avoid streaky glass. Keep cleaning and drying your windows until the last point on your cleaning list, waiting for the sun to go down to do the job.
She said: “If you struggle with streaks on the windows, make sure you clean them when the sun’s gone down. And you must work fast.”
Real Simple explained that the autumn months, particularly October, is a good time to clean windows due to mild weather and lower sun intensity. These factors will stop cleaning solutions from drying too quickly, and in turn, leave streaks on the glass.
It’s also a good time to clean the windows as it’s most effective for getting rid of pollen which could have accumulated over the summer.
You should also be mindful of the weather outside when cleaning windows. It’s best to avoid cleaning the glass when the temperatures are high.
Fabulosa told Real Homes: “When it’s sunny, your windows heat up and act as a conductor of heat. So any water applied when cleaning them evaporates. This leads to streaks and marks.”
However, you should avoid cleaning windows when the temperatures have dropped too low, as well. According to S&K Building Services, this will achieve “subpar results”.
Real Homes went on to explain that it’s best to clean windows when the weather is overcast, when the temperature is lower. This means you can also wash your windows early in the morning too.
The publication said: “Cleaning them in the heat of the day could make for a never-ending task as streaks continue to appear, which is not something anybody needs.”
