Nando’s hits customers with new rules as warning issued | UK | News

Nando’s has introduced a new policy that some fans won’t appreciate. One of the restaurant chain’s offers that was a firm customer favourite has now been restricted thanks to a new law introduced in England to tackle obesity in the country. However, the new rule only applies to select drinks that have a certain sugar content. Regulars at Nando’s enjoy the restaurant chain’s bottomless drinks offer, which allows them to fill their glasses with fizzy drinks as much as they like during their visit.

Customers enjoy the promotion as it is seen as a way for them to get more bang for their buck, but fans of classic Coca-Cola will no longer be able to avail themselves of the offer when it comes to their favourite drink. However, zero-sugar drinks remain unlimited, so Nando’s customers will be able to refill their glasses with things like Sprite Zero and Fanta Zero. But when it comes to a glass of Coca-Cola Classic, customers will only be able to fill their glass with the famous soft drink once during their visit to the restaurant.

Nando’s has added a sticker to its fizzy drinks machines in its restaurants across the country, informing customers of the new rule. It reads: “Want Coca-Cola Classic? It’s one glass only.

“Based on new government laws, we’ve had to limit Coca-Cola Classic to one glass per customer. Still thirsty? Help yourself to one of our low-sugar fizzy bottomless soft drinks.”

Then Health Secretary Matt Hancock introduced a series of measures to tackle obesity in Britain in 2021. Meanwhile, “buy one, get one free” promotions on high-fat foods have been banned in England.

Some Nando’s fans took to social media to share their reactions to the new policy. One person wrote: “This must be a joke.”

These new policies come as the NHS estimates that one in four adults and around one in five children aged 10 to 11 are living with obesity, marking a sharp increase. Among the new rules is a ban on advertising junk food on TV before 9pm.

A spokesperson for UKHospitality, the trade body for hospitality in the UK, said: “From 1 October, hospitality businesses will be complying with new regulations that have introduced a ban on free refills of sugar-sweetened drinks in hospitality. Venues work hard to ensure that customers have a wide range of drink options to choose from when they visit our sector, and will continue to ensure that is the case.”
