The spooky season has finally arrived, and with it comes the time of year for pumpkin picking with the family, but finding the best spot to visit is not the easiest feat. As Brits are ready to embrace the autumn, new research has listed the best pumpkin patches across the UK.
Factoring in entry prices and social media popularity, Outdoor Toys has compiled the list of the top farms for the ultimate pumpkin picking experience. For 2025 there are an impressive eight pumpkin patches that are free of charge to enter for kids or adults, including the likes of South Farm Rodmell, in East Sussex, and Orway Porch Farm in Devon. Outdoor Toys commented on the simple joys of this activity at this time of year, saying: “Pumpkin picking and days out at farms are about so much more than choosing the perfect pumpkin.
“They give families a chance to step away from screens, enjoy the fresh air, and spend time together in a way that feels relaxed and memorable.
“Even a couple of hours outdoors can make a real difference to wellbeing. This time can boost mood, reduce stress, and give children the chance to run around and explore. The beauty of seasonal activities like this is how naturally they bring people together.
“Whether it’s little ones proudly carrying their pumpkins, friends snapping photos in the fields, or parents soaking up a moment of calm, the experience creates lasting memories.
“And with farms offering everything from outdoor games to photo opportunities, it’s a reminder that getting outdoors doesn’t have to be complicated and sometimes the simplest traditions are the ones that bring the most joy.”
1. Doddington Hall
Tucked away in Lincolnshire, Doddington Hall has topped the list for the third year in a row as the best pumpkin patch in the UK. Their family-favourite experience offers 30 different varieties of not only pumpkins to choose from but also squashes and gourds as well, making it one of the most popular for pictures online – not to mention, it’s completely free to enter.
2. Millets Farm Centre
Climbing its way up the ranks from third last year is Millets Farm Centre in Oxfordshire. Families can visit for as little as £3 per person upon entry before picking the best pumpkins on the patch.
3. Lathcoats Farm
This Essex farm does actually sit in joint second place, thanks to its newfound online presence for all things offering a cosy autumn vibe. It marks a new entry this year as it slowly becomes one of the most sought-after spots, open from October 11.
Beyond fruit picking, the farm offers a variety of outdoor games to keep the kids occupied. Like any good pumpkin patch, it offers a great selection of photo opportunities.
4. Kenyon Hall Farm
Nestled in Warrington, Kenyon Hall Farm is another pumpkin patch set to impress the kids this autumn, with up to 20,000 pumpkins grown to choose from. It’s open to fans of the season looking for some festive fun right up until the big day itself, October 31.
What helps the farm score high in the ranks is its cheap entry fee for families at just £2.95.
5. Charleton Fruit Farm
In the Scottish countryside lies Charleton Fruit Farm in Angus, offering a wide variety of fruits and, of course, pumpkins for the colder season. It scores high on the rankings as it’s free to enter for both adults and children over Halloween and offers a slightly more quaint feel, as it’s lesser-known than the usual haunts.
