Brits have been urged to get one job done as soon as possible as the country heads into a cold winter. Temperatures in the UK have dropped in the last few weeks, a far cry from the country’s recent scorching hot summer season. Households will be making a number of preparations before winter truly arrives, such as changing over duvets and reintroducing their winter wardrobes.
When it comes to being ready for winter, there is one job that British householders should complete sooner rather than later. That is according to Alex Peters from Checktrade. By getting it done early before winter weather sets in and we start to feel the chill hitting hard, British households could save as much as £200, the expert says. In preparation for winter, UK households should book in their annual boilder service as soon as they can.
Getting your boiler serviced every year drastically reduces the risk of costly breakdowns. “By addressing repairs early, you reduce the risk of needing a full boiler replacement at the worst time – when you need your heating the most,” Alex warned.
In colder months, engineers are required to offer urgent boiler repairs, which can lead to a costly bill for you. A typical boiler repair in non-winter months costs around £300, but repairs in colder months of the year can cost around £410.
This price excludes the cost of parts, which can be between £100 and £150. “By acting early, you can save over £200 on average,” Alex says. “Plus, booking a service before the colder months gives you more time to get tailored advice, such as adjusting your boiler settings to reduce energy consumption.”
Boiler repairs can be expensive, so getting your boiler serviced now will ensure that it is in top shape for winter, as temperatures are expected to drop drastically. If you don’t get it serviced soon, you run the risk of having it break down when you need it the most, and having to fork out for costly repairs or replacements.
To help maintain your boiler throughout the year, you can keep it running at a low, constant temperature in the winter months and switch it on every few weeks in summer. This stops debris from building up and keeps your system ticking over smoothly.
