Flooding has hit parts of the UK, with further warnings issued as residents are told to keep on their guard. The adverse conditions have affected the M62, forcing a lane closure near Huddersfield. In Salford, a street was submerged after flood alerts were issued across Greater Manchester. The Met Office said that cloud across England and Wales is gradually clearing today, and Brits should expect sunny spells developing for many elsewhere. There will, however, be scattered showers in the north, some heavy with hail and thunder. “Temperatures widely below average and feeling particularly cold where brisk winds affect the northeast,” experts added.

Tonight, showers will become confined to windward coastal regions, and skies are expected to clear inland, with winds easing, “allowing it to turn chilly with patchy rural frost and fog”. On Monday, forecasters suggest that clouds will be building across northern Scotland, with showers and a brisk breeze affecting the Northern Isles.

A flood warning means flooding is expected, and “immediate action” is required.

Locals can expect flooding of homes and businesses, and flooding of rail lines.

There will also possibly be “major impacts” on roads, and significant waves and spray.

In addition, the weather could see an “inundation of flood plains, low lying and river side areas like campsites and caravan parks”.
