Visitors to the Spanish town of Benidorm, a popular destination for party-goers and budget holidaymakers, have been issued a warning by a local resident.
With the cost of a pint in UK pubs seemingly increasing every visit, many are opting for party destinations like Benidorm due to their incredibly low prices. However, one local has cautioned that these €1 (87p) pints may not be as good a deal as they seem.
Benidorm bar owner @frankthestagman stated: “Let me tell you something about drinks that you get for €1. They are absolute rubbish.”
He advised: “Do not waste your time going to places that advertise €1 a pint because you’re getting the absolute… you’re getting the bottom of the barrel, do you know what I mean?”
Frank emphasised that you “get what you pay for”, suggesting it’s worth spending a bit more for a better tasting drink. He claimed that any place offering €1 pints “does it for a reason” and “it ain’t in your interest”.
He suggested that paying a little extra could be a small price to pay for maintaining your health while on holiday.
Frank went on to describe the cheap alcohol as “chemical horrible rubbish”, warning: “If you get an upset stomach and all that, your holiday’s over”.
In response to his comments, some defended the one euro pints, claiming they’re “fine” and they’ve “never had a problem with them”.
However, others agreed with Frank’s sentiments, with one writing: “Well done Frank about time someone said it”.
Someone who previously worked in hospitality revealed: “We did €1.50 a pint at the bar I used to manage in Tenerife, it was the same Dorada barrel that was used when the offer wasn’t on…..”
Whilst some declared it was “sound advice” – it’s clear others won’t be heeding the warning as they simply cannot resist the budget-friendly alcohol.
“I’m only going for the cheap pints”, one TikToker confessed.
Another social media user said: “It”s not an easy thing to find and some places have different prices in the day than the night”.
Meanwhile, others expressed they were “excited” to visit Benidorm as they were currently planning holidays there.
