We might not yet have had Halloween or Bonfire Night but major retailers’ plans for Christmas profits are already in full swing. With Christmas a mere 98 days away, some of the country’s largest retailers have already started slashing the price of toys that are likely to be high on wish lists across the UK.

Tesco has seized the festive initiative, launching a huge pre-Christmas toy sale with savings to be made of up to 50% on a range of toys and games. Available in more than 260 Tesco stores nationwide until November 2, there is plenty of time for organised parents to take advantage of the discounts on offer. Tesco’s head of strategy and partnerships, Pauline Chisholm, said: “There will be exciting toys for children of all ages with plenty of choice in the most popular categories including pre-school items, dolls, collectables, vehicles, plush and games.

“We hope this early Christmas sale will help people spread the cost of the festive season and also pick up some great offers.

“Included are some all-time favourite brands and we’re especially excited to be able to offer the Gabby’s Dollhouse Party Room Playset for half price, which we know will be in many kids’ wish lists.”

Popular brands such as Hot Wheels, Barbie and Twister have all had their prices slashed by 50% for the duration of the sale period.

Alongside the sale, additional discounts are on offer for those who are or become Clubcard members.

The move comes after rival supermarket Asda launched a similar discount earlier this month, which saw the retailer offer savings on popular Christmas gifts, including Disney and Lego.

Not to be outdone, Morrisons is preparing to rival the discounts of its rivals with the launch of its Half Price Toy Event that is set to go live on September 29.

Similar savings will be found at toy retailer Smyths, who are planning to start their half price sale on October 3, followed by the commencement of its discount code promotion on November 18.

Brands such as Aldi and Sainsbury’s are also set for similar deals to ensure a profitable festive period, with discounts on brands such as Lego, Barbie, Hot Wheels and Peppa Pig toys all included.
