‘Most beautiful’ city with UK’s best market is perfect getaway | Travel News | Travel

A quaint UK city has been crowned the world’s most beautiful during the autumn months, yet it remains a gem throughout the year. As well as its incredibly picturesque setting, Bath is also home to one of the best Christmas markets in the UK, according to consumer group Which?.

The market has an ice rink, perfect for a little Christmas activity and of course, plenty of stalls to browse. Most stallholders are local, hailing from the South West, with a staggering selection of goods – from garden sculptures to handmade wooden furniture. You can pick up knitted jumpers, perfumes and even gifts for your pets. Of course, no Christmas market is complete without food and  Bath’s market is no exception.

From local treats to festive flapjacks and much more, you’ll be spoilt for choice at this Christmas market.

Aside from its stellar market, Bath has earned the title of the most picturesque British city in the autumn and winter, as declared by Premier Inn’s travel experts.

The historic city has outshone global contenders such as Chicago and Cape Town, securing the top position in the international beauty stakes.

Tripadvisor’s highest-rated local attraction, Bath Abbey, has stood as a sacred site for over a millennium.

Visitors have taken to Tripadvisor to express their admiration, with one tourist noting: “A beautiful and peaceful space to spend time.”

Another shared their enthusiasm: “Visited more than once. So much to see and appreciate the history and architectural beauty.”

Despite some visitors’ disappointment at being unable to bathe in the Roman Baths, engaging exhibits animate the ancient site.

Among the intriguing artefacts at the Baths is a collection of curse tablets, where aggrieved Romans inscribed their woes seeking divine retribution, casting them into Minerva’s Spring.

While the historic Baths are off-limits for swimming, the Thermae Bath Spa offers adults a luxurious spa experience utilising the city’s naturally heated, mineral-rich waters.

For those seeking refuge in a cafe, Bath boasts an array of snug spots, complete with the opportunity to indulge in the celebrated ‘Bath Bun’, a sweet roll adorned with fruit and crushed sugar.

Bath boasts an array of remarkable architecture, a feature that has earned the city its status as a dedicated UNESCO site.

Visitors may spot familiar sights across the city, recognisable from popular shows such as Bridgerton, Poldark and The Sixth Commandment.
