There are many cities in Europe that people call beautiful. Visitors often rave about places like Paris, Vienna, Prague and Budapest, and even here in the UK, Edinburgh is often called one of the prettiest. But according to those who travel often, none of them compare to the capital of Italy: Rome.
Those who have visited say it’s the most stunning place they’ve ever seen, with streets full of history, world-famous landmarks and beautiful buildings at every turn. One visitor wrote on TripAdvisor: “Honestly the most beautiful city ever! Every corner has something incredible to see.”
Another said: “Rome is beautiful. It is like a huge museum, and you get to experience it just by walking around.”
A third added: “Yes, Rome is the most beautiful city. Easy to walk, full of surprises and wonderful monuments.”
Someone else described the historic centre as the place that “makes this city the most beautiful in the world”.
Rome is full of famous sights, including the Colosseum, Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps and the Vatican. But many say it’s the atmosphere that really makes it special.
One person who visited wrote: “Rome is like nowhere else. Beautiful buildings, amazing food, and history at every step. Just go, you won’t regret it.”
Rome is also easy to get to from the UK. One-way Ryanair flights from London Stansted to Rome Ciampino on certain dates in September and October are available from £25, and the flight takes just 2.5 hours.
Once you land, the city centre is just 7.5 miles away and easy to reach by train or taxi.
What’s more, with summer holidays over, September and October are great months to visit as many attractions are less crowded and easier to enjoy without long queues. The weather also stays warm with 22C on average in October.
Aside from the main attractions, many visitors say just exploring the streets is one of the best ways to enjoy Rome.
One reviewer said: “We didn’t even plan everything, we just walked, and every street had something beautiful.”
One of the few things visitors often complain about are the traffic and the crowds, especially during summer.
That’s why it pays off to visit Rome outside of the peak holiday months. While the traffic might still be chaotic, the tourist crowds will be much smaller.
