The 'best' movie streaming on Amazon Prime right now is masterpiece spy thriller

Streaming experts have revealed the best movie to stream on Amazon Prime Video right now, and it’s one that came out this year. Amazon Prime Video is one of the most popular streaming services in the UK, thanks to its plethora of well-reviewed series and its great selection of films, from period dramas to gritty war movies to edge-of-your-seat thrillers. Among the latter genre is a spy thriller that came out this year, hitting cinemas in March.

However, it flew under the radar for many, despite its stellar cast including two of Hollywood’s biggest names. It is currently available to rent for a free on Amazon Prime Video in the UK, but fans are hoping that it will soon be able to stream for all Amazon Prime subscribers. The movie has been well-reviewed by critics and audience members, and currently has a Rotten Tomatoes score of 96%. The movie in question is Black Bag, which stars Michael Fassbender and Cate Blanchett.

The two actors play a couple who both work as spies for British intelligence, and bring audiences on a journey full of twists and turns that they won’t see coming. In the film, officer George Woodhouse (Fassbender) is tasked with investigating a list of people, including his own wife Kathryn (Blanchett).

The cast for this movie is pretty stacked, also including Pierce Brosnan, Regé-Jean Page, Naomie Harris and many more familiar British actors.

The movie kept audience members guessing throughout, thanks to the clever writing and the convincing performances from the entire cast, especially its two leads, Blanchett and Fassbender. One viewer wrote on Rotten Tomatoes: “This is not an action film, but an old-fashioned spy thriller. It is very good. You must stay engaged and pay attention or you will be lost. Michael Fassbender and Cate Blanchett are terrific in the lead roles.”

Another shared: “So catchy, loved the witty dialogue, the love story beneath.” A third wrote: “Smart and sexy. Just as smashing brilliant as Sex, Lies, and Videotape. The film noir, brief blurts of 70s music and retro vibes are fabulous. Steven Soderbergh is a genius.”

Black Bag was named the best movie to stream on Amazon Prime Video right now by US entertainment publication TV Guide. The streaming experts ranked it higher than a slew of other well-rated movies, including Last Breath (2025), Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes (2024) and Miami Vice (2026).

Amazon Prime Video has recently added a slew of films to its catalogue, including a ‘blood-curdling’ war film that has been praised for its realistic portrayals of warfare.
