A trip to Spain is the number one holiday choice for many UK holidaymakers. There are many trusty spots in across the country where you’re certain you’ll experience a successful getway. Some favourites include Malaga, Benidorm, Salou, all of which having its perks, get millions of tourists visiting every year.

However, if you value both beauty and the experience that is made up of fewer crowds, well, this hidden gem on the Costa Brava has to be on your bucket list. According to Pocket Wanderings, this charming resort is the best coastal town or city in Spain, and so is certainly worth a visit.

Cadaques is located in the province of Girona in Catalonia. The town sits on a bay and is surrounded by idyllic scenery, including rocky cliffs, beautiful beaches, and secluded coves.

The captivating landscapes alone are enough to draw travellers to the stunning town, and once you arrive, you’ll find that there’s plenty to do. Cadaques is not only a town full of beauty but one that is full of rich history and culture.

The town’s historic centre is a much valued area of the town and lined with traditional white houses and pretty cobbled streets. Sitting at atop the old town, also the highest point of Cadaques, is the Church of Santa Maria.

Not only is the church itself breakthaking, but its location offers extraordinary views of Cadaques.

One person on TripAdvisor wrote: “We visited this church as part of a guided tour of Cadaques. We sat in the pews then our guide turned on the lights to show the altarpiece. It was breathtaking. Definitely worth the walk up to the top of the hill.”

Another mentioned the “fantastic panorama”.

Cadaques’s coastline is also worth mentioning. The town has a range of beaches and coves perfect for relaxing and more active holidaymakers. The town’s natural harbour and quality seabed make it perfect for beach-goers to enjoy all sorts of watersports, including diving, sailing, and windsurfing.

Nature lovers will also love Cadaques, where you’ll find various nature parks and protected spaces, including Aiguamolls de L’Emporda Natural Park, an important ecological reserve, and Cap de Creus Natural Park, which is great for walking and exploring Cadaques’s wild and rocky landscape.

From numerous museums and art galleries to the abundance of food spots, the list of things the small town offers is endless— you’ll never run out of things to do or see.
