Louis Rees-Zammit seals Wales rugby reunion after big impression | Rugby | Sport

Louis Rees-Zammit has been reunited with several of his Wales team-mates, just days after making an early impression at Bristol Bears. The Gallagher Premiership side welcomed the Ospreys on Tuesday for a joint-training session ahead of the new season, with British & Irish Lions Jac Morgan and Ellis Genge reuniting after their strong bond over the summer. The session also gave Rees-Zammit the chance to catch up with some of his Welsh colleagues.

The Ospreys shared a photo of Rees-Zammit chatting with their new recruit Ross Moriarty, who joined from French club Brive this summer. Rees-Zammit will be looking forward to spending more time with his fellow countrymen later this year, with new Wales coach Steve Tandy stating in August that the door was open for the 24-year-old to make a comeback to the Test scene.

His last Test was the World Cup quarter-final loss to Argentina in Marseille back in October 2023, with his final match for Gloucester taking place the following January.

He then spent over a year attempting to break into the NFL, signing for the Kansas City Chiefs before eventually landing at the Jacksonville Jaguars.

However, after failing to make an appearance in the NFL, Rees-Zammit decided to return to rugby this summer – signing for the Bears.

It’s evident that he has been making a strong impression with the English team following his return from America.

“It’s good to see Louis Rees-Zammit out training with the boys,” Bristol’s director of rugby, Pat Lam, told Bristol’s in-house media team during their training camp in Portugal.

“Back in the team, working. He seems to fit in really well. He’s wooed a few of us with some of his ability in training.”

These comments come as footage of a trademark chip-and-chase try by Rees-Zammit in training surfaced.

Bristol kick off their season with PREM Cup matches against Sale Sharks and Gloucester over the next two weekends, before taking on Leicester in their opening league match in the final weekend of the month.

As for the Ospreys, their joint-session saw several of their Wales stars in action as they gear up for their return to rugby.

The club have no more pre-season matches ahead of their trip to South Africa to start the United Rugby Championship season.

Wales captain Morgan started back this week, a couple of weeks behind the likes of Dewi Lake, Dan Edwards, Keelan Giles and the Ospreys’ other Wales tourists of Japan.
