Gavin and Stacey star Ruth Jones has put her six-bedroom family home, where she penned the popular TV series, on the market following her split from her husband of 25 years. The mock Tudor house, located on Tydraw Road, Penylan, with views over Roath Park in Cardiff, is listed for £1,150,000.
The property, which Jones shared with television producer David Peet, 72, is now vacant as the couple are living separately. The house holds a special place in the hearts of Gavin and Stacey fans, as it was here that Jones began co-writing the beloved BBC series. The couple purchased the six-bedroom semi-detached house in 2001 for £325,000.
While Peet has three children from a previous marriage, the couple did not have any children together.
Estate agent Kelvin Francis described the property as a “Handsome, three-storey bay fronted Edwardian style residence, retaining charm and character, sympathetically extended, choice position overlooking Roath Park recreation fields, a short walk to Wellfield Road shops, bistros and cafes, all local amenities, being within Cardiff High School catchment.”
The grand property features a reception hall, cloakroom, lounge, sitting room and a “magnificent” kitchen/family room measuring 22ft by 20ft. Outside, there is a patio and garden, while inside, the main bathroom boasts a roll top bath, reports Wales Online.
Original features have been preserved in the property, including period fireplaces, and an elaborate fire surround in the dining room.
Local residents reveal that fellow celebrity James Corden was a frequent guest as the duo – at that time relatively unknown – struck gold by creating the cherished comedy series.
One neighbour revealed: “James was often here even though many people didn’t know who he was. Ruth absolutely loved that house, and it will be difficult to leave – although she clearly wants a new start.
“Her and James would wander just down the road to the Jubarah restaurant for a curry – and even based some of their scenes on their experiences around here.
“Ruth was a lovely neighbour no matter how famous she became. She always asked about the children.”
Ruth – who was raised in the nearby coastal town of Porthcawl – described the Cardiff property as “my favourite place to be”.
The duo separated more than a year ago, and the pair announced the split.
She has been living in a flat near Hyde Park, London, while Peet has relocated to Vancouver, Canada, to be with his partner, Jayne Charity Cook, 46.
The former pair released a statement in June saying: “We amicably went our separate ways 18 months ago and are now legally separated. We remain good friends. Since our separation, Ruth is living in London and David is living in Canada, where he is in a new relationship.”
