Netflix has just dropped a 90s-set romantic comedy that has already shattered viewing records within a fortnight of its release.
The South Korean production, set in 1998, centres on 19 year old student Park Se-ri (portrayed by Shin Eun-soo) who is preparing to make the most crucial declaration of her life.
She becomes involved with transfer student Han Yoon-seok (Gong Myung), sparking a tender teenage romance.
The film is titled Love Untangled, and it has already claimed the top position on the Non-English Film chart with 8.2 million viewers.
Enthusiasts have flocked to IMDb to share their opinions, with hannynorbert awarding it a perfect 10/10 rating.
They commented: “This movie archives everything it aims for. You would think you have seen it all as far as high-school love stories are concerned, right? You are right – and you are wrong.
“It was a great idea to put this story back into the 90s. Without any spoilers, the greatest twist in the film is partly thanks to that era.
“All in all, this movie is a real little gem, so do not believe any negative reviews! Hats of to everyone that took part in the making! 10/10.”
Another admirer celebrated the nostalgic atmosphere, with arinadwo noting: “As the story goes, it appears that the film use similar K-Drama template which is friend to lover.
“But the best thing is the nostalgic vibes of late 1990s school and love live. It appears innocents, sweets, and overall far from the toxic and buzzing social medias.
“There are bunch of references, such as paper crane wish, Pager, film cameras, songs, to unique hairstyles. It add various fun elements to the rather simple storytelling.”
Hazard111 praised it as “simple yet heartwarmingly wholesome”, sharing: “Now this is just a simple story there’s no big plot twists or conflict for every character but it does give your heart a tug.
“I actually teared up watching this when they dug a little deep putting thorns in the plot lines which helped give more depth to our main leads. Because they needed it. If this was a series would’ve hit so much more.”
