Manchester United star Diogo Dalot has pulled out of the Portugal squad ahead of his country’s World Cup qualifiers with Armenia and Hungary. The right-back is said to be suffering from muscle discomfort and has been replaced by former Arsenal full-back Nuno Tavares.

Dalot has started two Premier League matches this season, with the 26-year-old featuring from the outset during United’s 1-0 defeat to Arsenal and 3-2 victory over Burnley. He also played the full 90 minutes in the Carabao Cup second round as the Red Devils were humiliated by League Two opponents Grimsby. But United chiefs will now be sweating on his fitness ahead of the team’s next clash with Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium next Sunday.

The Portuguese Football Association released a statement to confirm the news as they wrote: “Full-back Nuno Tavares was called up this Thursday to the national team A to take the place of Diogo Dalot.

“The international, who represents Manchester United, accused muscle discomfort and was dismissed by the health and performance unit.”
