Sir Keir Starmer has, by any measure, been utterly useless at stemming the ceaseless tide of illegal migrants arriving on our shores.
Illegal asylum seekers – no, let’s be honest, asylum seeking per se – has long since stopped being the issue du jour. It is now the issue de la décennie.
It is palpably tearing this country apart.
We are without a doubt one of the most tolerant, giving nations on earth.
Which is half the problem of course.
But our generosity of spirit and even our fabled British stiff upper lip, which saw us good-humouredly through the darkest hours the world has ever seen, have reached their limits.
The strange result however is that instead of standing shoulder to shoulder against those who would invade us and take us for fools, we are at each other’s throats.
We are fist fighting among ourselves while our enemies look on laughing gleefully.
On the streets the fascists on the hard left attack the fascists on the hard right and vice versa. Nothing new there.
But look closely, and you’ll see those on the streets in Essex, Falkirk, Oldham, West Drayton, Northamptonshire, Cannock and others yesterday were not rent-a-mobs. They were mums and dads, grandmas and grandads, teachers, doctors, kids… normal people.
Normal people shouting and screaming and pointing fingers at each other. And, more than occasionally, normal people reduced to awful acts of violence.
Whatever your take, there can be no doubt that illegal immigration is palpably tearing this country apart.
All of which is wonderful news for our enemies, the clever and sinister forces orchestrating all of this.
And foremost among them J’accuse pound shop Napoleon Emmanuel Macron.
You can bet he is loving every minute of the discord he is sowing.
Former PM Boris Johnson recounts how every attempt to build a post-Brexit relationship with France was snubbed because Macron was hell-bent on punishing Britain for leaving the EU (and thus jeopardising the traditional French pastimes of stealing British fish and getting huge EU farm subsidies for not growing anything).
Boris recalls: “Macron really meant it when he said that Brexit Britain must be punished.
“Take the ‘small boats’, the endless stream of rubber dinghies and other unseaworthy vessels that cross the Channel to Britain… it seemed at least possible to me that Macron was weaponising the problem, and discreetly allowing the migrants to come across in sufficient numbers to drive the British public nuts.
“We give them hundreds of millions of pounds a year to monitor the beaches and stamp out the trade. And as the months went by and the boats kept coming I’m afraid I started to wonder. Were the French really doing all they could?”
All they could to punish and humiliate Britain certainly.
The UK is paying France hundreds of millions of pounds to stop the boats leaving the French coast but, so far this year, the numbers of migrants arriving in the UK this way – most of whom go on to claim asylum – have reached record levels.
We are paying France half a billion pounds to help stem the tide of migrants emanating from their shorts and so far all we know for sure is the French authorities have popped one single dinghy.
And Keir Starmer’s one-in-one-out policy? Anyone else think it should be called one-in-on-out-one-back-in policy? The hokey-cokey policy?
There is no way any migrant returned to France isn’t going to have another crack.
I would.
And don’t think that living Bond villain Vladimir Putin doesn’t have a hand in all this.
Security sources say Russia and its puppet-state Belarus have been accused of orchestrating migrant surges on Europe’s eastern borders by providing fake documents, transport, and military escorts to the gangs.
Meanwhile that perennial cancer to world peace Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has also made sure his hand-picked Iranian trouble-makers are joining the masses packed into small boats and the backs of cross-Channel lorries.
Just days ago a group of men were charged with spying for Iran and planning “serious violence”. We are told they arrived here by illegal means.
The tough but wise Polish PM Donald Tusk has suspended asylum rights for those arriving from Belarus because he can see the migrant crisis is part of a deliberate hybrid warfare strategy backed by hostile states, while Italian defence minister Guido Crosetto is warning that hideous bunch of mercenaries the Wagner group is being paid by the Kremlin to drive immigration from North Africa to Europe, for obvious reasons.
If they can see it why can’t our leaders?
Wanting to control migration and end this deadly free-for-all doesn’t make you a fascist.
It means you don’t think the asylum policy of any nation should not be dictated by Albania’s criminal underworld, ably aided and abetted by Emmanuel Macron, Vladimir Putin, Ayatollah Khamenei and perhaps many more.
They are the real enemy here, not fellow Brits… as hapless and politically impotent as they may be.
