A dog expert has revealed the breeds that tend to be lower maintenance than others. Dogs can be incredible companions and owners will attest how much love and joy the creatures bring to their lives.

But certain breeds often require more work and looking after than others, which may make them unsuitable for people with busy lifestyles. And while they all need plenty of care and attention, some breeds tend to be easy to look after than others.

Renee, founder of Paws Academy Dog Training, said three dog types that may be slightly easier to look after – “without all the drama”.

First up is the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, which are “chilled, sweet, and happy with short walks”.

The second on her list is Border Terriers, a breed which is “tough, low fuss, and don’t have a large exercise need”.

“Number three is the miniature poodle: smart, easy to train, and healthier than you would actually think”.

Meanwhile, a vet previously revealed a dog breed that’s incredibly popular, but “bred to be anxious” meaning she would never own one.

British veterinarian Cat has a popular channel on TikTok where she posts as @cat_the_vet, providing tips for pet owners on how to keep them happy and healthy.

In a video back in 2022, she gave a rundown of the five dog breeds she won’t have as a pet, stressing a not wanting a German Shepherd is a personal preference and others may be better suited to owning them.

She also offers advice on how different breeds differ in their behaviour, and why some may be unsuitable for owners depending on their lifestyle and how much time they’re able to give them.
