UK homes are getting some new premium content to watch, and it will be totally free to tune into. It’s just been confirmed that 5 (formerly Channel 5) has joined forces with Paramount and CBS Sports to bring all the latest NFL action into living rooms. The multi-year deal will include live coverage of the NFL season – something that’s not been available for some time.
Every week throughout the whole NFL season there will be two Sunday evening games to view. The first will be broadcast at 6pm on 5. This will then be followed by a second game at 9pm on 5ACTION. This free-to-view channel will be branded as 5NFL for game nights. Both games will also be streamed live.
That’s not all. It’s also been confirmed that the broadcaster will also show the Super Bowl in the UK along with the NFL London and Dublin Games plus Thanksgiving Day specials and three playoff games.
NFL coverage on 5 will kick off at 5:30pm on game nights, hosted by Dermot O’Leary, with Sam Quek and double-Super Bowl winner Osi Umenyiora.
Speaking about the new service Dermot O’Leary said: “I’m really excited about hosting Big Game Night – the show combines two of my big loves: entertainment television and American football. I think it will be a really fun, silly and brilliant way to watch the game so I hope people enjoy it.”
And Sam Quek added: “I can’t wait to kick off this new adventure with the NFL on 5! Sharing that excitement every Sunday night with Dermot and Osi is going to be brilliant. The mix of top-class sport and big entertainment is the perfect way for families, fans and newcomers to get involved. I’m so excited to get started.”
The action will start on 5 and 5ACTION from Sunday 7th September, from 5.30pm. It will be avaiable on platforms such as Freeview and Sky.
