Weather maps show huge swathes of the UK will be covered by rain in early September. As autumn draws closer, forecasts show that more turbulent and wetter conditions are on the way.

The rain will stretch from Wick in Scotland to Cardiff in Wales, creating a huge 598-mile wall. At midnight on Wednesday September 10, up to 10mm per hour of rain will be seen in Aberdeen which is expected to be the wettest city, WXCharts maps show. Not only this, but most of Scotland will see around 5mm of rain or more.

As for England, most of the south will remain dry, and the midlands too. In the north of England, Manchester and Yorkshire will see up to 2mm of rainfall per hour.

At 6am, maps show the midlands and the north of England will see rain, as well as Wales.

The heaviest rainfall will be seen in Liverpool and Yorkshire.

By 12 noon, rain patterns will change with the wet conditions moving down towards Cornwall, Devon, Gloucester, Worcester, Birmingham and Cardiff.

The most rainfall will be seen in Plymouth with 5mm per hour of rain expected.

A Met Office forecast says: “Low pressure patterns are expected to dominate at the start of this period, bringing changeable weather conditions with showers or some longer spells of rain.

“Conditions may begin to turn more settled and drier later in the period, particularly in the south.

“Temperatures are likely to be close to average, perhaps turning warmer later in the period.”
