I used to think owning a pizza oven was a slight novelty and was an appliance you got out once a year before retiring it to the shed for the winter. However, I kept seeing them crop up on social media, just like I did with the air fryer, and decided to see whether or not they are worth it.
I tried the Delivita Diavolo’s Gas-Fired Oven, which is one of the more affordable pizza ovens I’ve seen at £249. It heats to 500°C in just 20 minutes and has the ability to cook pizzas in just 60 seconds. It claims to be lightweight, portable and even comes with a folding peel, carry case, temperature gun and a gas regulator, everything you need to get cooking.
I absolutely loved that the package came with a carry case, as I’ve already taken it to people’s houses, as well as a folding peel to put the pizza in and out of the oven.
As a newbie to pizza ovens, this was extremely helpful, and I was excited to get it set up outside on a table. However, I found the oven very hard to put together, and the instructions weren’t that helpful at this stage either, so I ended up asking for help and turning to YouTube.
Eventually, after some fiddling with it, we managed to get the gas pipe on, and we were ready to go. I also love how Delivita offers a range of oven accessories and dough to try, which creates the perfect pizzas.
You can choose from traditional organic vegan dough or organic vegan sourdough, and I must say, they were delicious and can be kept in the freezer for when you want to use them.
I found lighting the pizza oven quite tricky, but the more you make pizzas, the more you get to grips with how everything works.
Once the oven was fired, we began baking our pizzas, which were ready in no time at all and really gave us that authentic stone-baked pizza taste that you get in restaurants.
Once you understand how the oven works, you can expect crisp bases, gooey cheese, and deliciously cooked toppings every time.
I experimented with a variety of toppings, and they all came out perfectly once we had experimented with the temperature to prevent the crusts from catching.
We turned the pizzas around a couple of times whilst in the oven to ensure even cooking, and they were absolutely delicious. In fact, I’d say they were as good as ones I’ve had in restaurants, and I was given the fun of making them too.
Its foldable legs make it easy to store in winter or outside in summer, and its size means you can easily take it wherever you go.
It also has total temperature control, which makes the oven perfect for pizzas, meats, fish and even vegetables.
You can really make an evening out of this, and it’s super fun to enjoy during the summer months with some cold salads and beverages.
The company is currently offering free shipping on all orders over £45 and a special offer on the black pizza oven, available for £199 with all of the accessories worth £169 included. It can also be purchased from John Lewis.
The company also offers three other pizza ovens: wood-fired ovens, a dual-fuel gas oven, and its Chef+ ovens.
There aren’t many pizza ovens on the market, but Argos sells a few, including the Ninja Woodfire 8-in-1 Electric Outdoor Pizza oven for £329 and the popular Ooni Koda 12 gas-powered pizza oven for £299.
