Cleaning your patio can help it last longer and can help your garden look more put together. It’s common to use a pressure washer but these can be expensive if you don’t already have one.
Instead, experts say there’s one cheap item which you might already have at home that could work wonders. Ideal Home says using banking soda is key to the perfect patio. It recommends buying a large bag of baking soda from somewhere like Amazon so you have plenty to work with. You’ll also need a scrubbing brush with soft grip handles and hot water. Ideal Home says: “Thanks to its mildly abrasive nature, baking soda is a great option for those looking for a natural way to clean their patio.
“That’s because the baking soda will tackle the stubborn stains and dirt without damaging the patio slabs in the process, and to successfully do this you’ll need to make a paste of baking soda and water.
“Then, scrub the mixture into the patio with a hard-bristled brush. You can then rinse the whole thing with water and repeat as many times as you need to.”
While pressure washers may seem like the obvious choice, some experts advise against using this appliance.
Which? says pressure washers work by blasting surfaces with a high-pressure jet of water and are a great way of removing ingrained grime from patios, decking, cars, caravans and garden furniture.
It adds: “It’s important to use them correctly, though, as the jet is strong enough to damage car paintwork or delicate woodgrain in decking.”
Using baking soda is an affordable way to make your patio look brand new and you’ll see a huge difference if you use this tried and tested method.
