‘I’m a paint expert—these are the best colours to paint your kitchen walls’

The kitchen is an important room in the home, whether you use it just for cooking or spend more time there. This means it’s important to make it as homely and comfortable as possible, and one way to do so is through painting, whether that’s walls or cupboards. However, with countless paint shades to choose from, it can be tricky to get a kitchen colour right, especially if you have an open-plan space.

Whether you like a cosy environment or a sleek, modern look, the colours you choose have a powerful impact on both the aesthetics and mood of the space. With that in mind, Penelope Jacobs, kitchen design expert at Penelope Jacobs at MyJobQuote.co.uk, has shared the “best” colours to paint a kitchen.

The expert said: “Neutral, warm colours are great for creating a welcoming atmosphere and can provide a great foundation for your kitchen cabinets and accessories to stand out.

“Creamy whites and soft beiges are perfect options. Alternatively, you can add a splash of colour with pastel tones such as powder yellow, baby blue and pale pink.

“Neutral colours can be used across your entire kitchen and work well when paired with neutral textures such as granite worktops and wood units.”

Bright white is also a popular option as it is timeless and can make a statement without feeling too clinical.

Consider using it with glossy kitchen units with a handle-less design for a minimalistic aesthetic.

The expert added: “Add a few dark colours on your walls or worktops to help define the space. A statement accessory, such as a brightly coloured cooker, can help add a daring spin to the room.

“The most popular colour for a kitchen is white. White works well on the walls, work surfaces, cabinets and even the flooring.

“White is the most neutral of neutrals, and this means that it works well with a wide range of additional design elements.

“It’s also a very popular choice because it evokes a sense of minimalism and cleanliness.”

Cooler shades, including grey, blue, green, and purple, are also very versatile, making them a great choice for creating a statement feature or wall.

There are many ways to add a bold pop of colour to your kitchen scheme, such as adding a kitchen island or row of cabinets that contrast in colour, or painting the main wall in a bright, eye-catching shade.

The expert noted: “It’s important when using statement colours that you balance out the effects by adding some neutral tones throughout the rest of the room.
