According to Enjoy Travel’s top 50 beaches across the world, four UK destinations have made the list. Coming in at 12th place is Luskentyre beach, located on the Isle of Harris in Scotland’s Outer Hebrides. Described as a “little slice of the Maldives” on TripAdvisor, the place has been awarded the Scottish Beach Award for its natural beauty and stunning landscape.
Another commentator on TripAdvisor said: “Words do not do this beach justice… I would never know I was in Scotland… what an amazingly gorgeous beach. The sand is in its purest form and the water as blue as can be… we walked and walked, just admiring how clean and beautiful the beach is.”
While Luskentyre beach is a sight to behold, it would be weather dependent as to whether you dip your toes in the sea or not.
The next UK beach on the “top 50 beaches across the world” list is Porthcurno Beach in Cornwall.
Enjoying a warmer climate in the south of England, Porthcurno Beach has been praised for its “really clear water and white gorgeous sand”.
Other visitors posted to TripAdvisor did caution that it’s “a bit of a walk to the beach” so this could be an issue for someone who has mobility issues.
One posted: “The path down to the beach is quite long, and very steep towards the bottom.
“If you have any issues with walking, this is quite difficult to navigate, especially going back up as the sand is very loose and you can struggle to get onto the path.”
However, the beach itself has been described as “absolutely beautiful” and “just stunning”.
Ranked as 28th of the best beaches in the world is the Whitesands Beach in Wales, near St Davids in Pembrokeshire.
And coming in at 39th place is Alum Chine beach in Bournemouth, Dorset, on the south coast of England.
