While many may be excused to think peppermint is a scent to be used inside your house, it may be a beneficial tool for gardeners too. Peppermint oil is not hard to get your hands on and it could help you keep some pests out.

If you’re looking to get rid of any insects from your home, there’s one that could be particularly effective in deterring. It’s crucial to make sure you’re not harming any wildlife but instead using natural methods to keep them away.

Eradi Control says peppermint oil is particularly effective in deterring woodlice in your garden.

It says: “Peppermint oil, lavender oil, and tea tree oil are particularly effective at repelling woodlice.

“To use these natural remedies, simply place citrus peels or sprinkle coffee grounds in areas where you’ve noticed woodlice activity.

“For essential oils, mix a few drops with water in a spray bottle and apply to entry points and problem areas.

“Not only will these solutions help keep woodlice at bay, but they’ll also leave your home smelling fresh and invigorating.”

Woodlice are attracted to two things: moisture and decomposing organic matter.

If you have excessive moisture or warm temperatures in your home, you might be unintentionally making a perfect environment for these creatures.

Other things they might take to in your home or garden include feeding on rotting wood, mildew, and decaying matter.

By being aware of this, you can easily check your home for any spots where wood lice might be drawn to.

You should make sure you have a chemical-free way to deter woodlice and peppermint oil is an easy way to prevent them from entering your space.

Natural repellents can be a safe, effective, and pleasant-smelling alternative to harsh chemical sprays.

Which Magazine says: “Woodlice tend to nibble stems, aerial roots and growing points. If you have controlled slugs, snails and wireworms and only soft or young tissue has been attacked, these pests may be to blame.

“If firm, older material has been damaged, look for pests like cutworms, wireworms, chafer grubs, leatherjackets and caterpillars. Slime trails are tell-tale signs of slugs or snails.”

If you’re looking to get rid of woodlice in your garden, peppermint oil could be the most effective way of deterring them.
