Film fans spot heartbreaking detail in Weapons film that's left many emotional

A heartbreaking detail has been spotted in the recently released horror film, Weapons.

The Hollywood film depicts a class of children who run from their homes and disappear in the middle of the night, with the town then trying to figure out why this happened.

Director Zach Cregger managed to slip in a detail to one of his earlier projects, a comedy series he had worked on before writing the mystery horror film dominating cinemas.

But part of the detail, fans have realised, is a nod to a former colleague and member of the comedy troupe who passed away just a few years ago.

Viewers took to social media platform X and found there was a heartbreaking nod to Cregger’s friend and fellow comedy troupe member, Trevor Moore.

Moore and Cregger were founding members of the skit comedy group Whitest Kids U’Know. The group, which also featured Sam Brown, Timmy Williams, and Darren Trumeter, had a show of the same name which ran for five seasons.

Moore passed in 2021 at the age of 41. Four years later, and Cregger has paid tribute to the comedy legend, referencing a skit Moore had appeared in during his time with the Whitest Kids U’Know.

An image of seven hotdogs on a tray which features in Weapons is believed to be a reference to a Moore skit where he portrays a doctor concerned by the intake of cooked sausages.

A side-by-side of the seven hotdogs and Moore’s “a little high” joke was shared to X. One user captioned the image: “The seven hot dogs in Weapons is a tribute to Trevor Moore.”

Fans believe the release date of the film, August 7, is also significant. A user shared: “Trevor Moore died on August 7.” While Cregger would confirm Moore was a huge influence on the project as a whole, this sweet scene featured a direct nod to the late legend.

One user wrote: “The entire movie is a tribute to him. But this is a specific direct reference.” Others were left kicking themselves after not making the link between the seven hotdogs and the Moore joke.

A fan shared: “Nice! I knew about the release date, but I didn’t notice the number of hot dogs.” Another added: ” I’m *so* embarrassed I didn’t draw that connection omg.”

Others have found the film to be heartbreaking beyond the horror themes, with some viewers saying the whole film feels like a tribute to Moore.

One fan wrote: “The entire movie I kept getting the vibe that Zach Creggor desperately wanted Trevor in the movie or at least dedicated so much to him. Hell I thought for a second the actor for Alex’s dad looked VERY similar to him, maybe on accident, maybe not, I don’t know.”

Another agreed, adding: “He’s all over the movie and I really loved it. 2:17 in the morning, 7 hot dogs, the climactic scene feeling exactly like a WKUK bit. It’s the perfect tribute.”
