While you could spend money on dust-repellent polishes, Polly Kay, an expert from English Blinds, says it is much easier to simply wipe down blinds and windowsills with dryer sheets.
She said: “Additionally, you can use a tumble dryer sheet to wipe over the slats of wooden blinds; these will both remove dust and produce an anti-static effect to help to keep it off.”
It may sound a little strange, but dryer sheets are designed to remove static electricity from clothes in the laundry and will also get rid of any buildup on the surface.
Dryer sheets not only gets rid of static electricity but it also leaves behind a very thin coating of fabric softener, which also makes it harder for dust to settle on blinds or window stills.
There is a simple yet cost-effective method to keep a room dust-free for much longer so you do not have to keep dusting every other day in summer.
Plus, dryer sheets are usually scented and will make your home smell much nicer and fresher without buying an air freshener.
How to use dryer sheets to keep dust away from blinds and windowsills
All you need to do is close your blinds so each slat is facing the same way, and give them a clean like you normally would.
Wipe the blinds gently with a damp cloth, and then turn the slats in the other direction and clean them as well.
Make sure to also wipe down the windowsill. It helps to hoover the floor around the window as any debris it a room will simply cause it to quickly become dusty again.
Then, take a dryer sheet and rub it all over each blind slat and the windowsill. Make sure to get into any corners and edges, as it is more likely to settle in these spots.
Once you are done, the area around your window should remain dust-free for two weeks or even longer, but how long this effect lasts depends on how often you have your windows open.
