Netflix fans 'can't wait' for new thriller because of returning actor

Netflix fans are eager to watch a new film due to be released in autumn, all because it’ll be fronted by Keira Knightley. The actor, 40, boasts an impressive CV of film hits including 2005’s Pride and Prejudice, which bagged her an Academy Award nomination, the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, and more. She last starred in the TV series Black Doves in 2024.

The beloved star is playing the lead in the film adaptation of The Woman in Cabin 10, based on author Ruth Ware’s novel which was first published in 2016. It’s due to be released on Netflix on October 10, much to the delight of fans of Knightley – and the book.

The plot centres on travel journalist Lo Blacklock who’s invited aboard a luxurious yacht on its maiden voyage.

While things initially seem idyllic and serene, Lo is stunned when she sees a passenger thrown overboard in the middle of the night.

When she demands answers, she’s told she must have imagined or dreamed it as all her co-passengers are accounted for. With nobody supposedly missing, Lo sets out on a dangerous quest for answers.

Author Ruth Ware told Tudum: “Cabin 10, at its heart, is about a woman who experiences something wrong, reports it truthfully, and isn’t taken seriously because of who she is.

“Too many people know what that feels like and I think we want vindication for ourselves as much as Lo.”

The book was published almost a decade ago but the writer believes its relevance is enduring because “the fear of not being believed is perennial, unfortunately”.

When Netflix shared news of the film adaptation’s release date, many fans flocked to the comments section to share their thoughts with both the streaming juggernaut and film lovers delighted to see Keira Knightley in another leading role.

In the caption accompanying the post, Netflix penned: “You had me at ‘Keira Knightley’. The Woman In Cabin 10 arrives 10 October”.

One fan commented: “I can’t wait” while another said: “I’m SOLD!”

A third said: “October 10 can’t come quick enough” while a fourth agreed: “Can’t wait! Love this book”.

Someone else said: “Anything with Keira [bring] it on”.

Another referenced Keira’s co-star Kaya Scodelario, of Skins and The Maze Runner franchise fame, with similar excitement. They said: “I hear [Kaya Scodelario] is in it, that’s me sold”.

Ware described the cast of the film as “truly amazing”. The author said: “I’ve said in acknowledgements before that it takes a village to make a book, but what I learned going on set for Cabin 10 is that it takes a whole town to make a film – it’s truly amazing seeing so many people working so hard on something you created.

“It’s also a big leap of faith, of course – like handing your baby over to strangers. But I feel Lo [played by Knightley] and company are in good hands.”
