A Brit found their 50p to be worth a huge £10,000 after discovering its rare value. The item, which is listed on eBay, is described as a rare Benjamin Bunny 50 pence coin.
It was issued in 2017 to celebrate one of Beatrix Potter’s most loved children’s stories, The Tale of Benjamin Bunny, reports Runcorn and Widnes World. The description reads: “This collectible coin has a denomination of 50p and belongs to the British decimal coinage era during the reign of Queen Elizabeth II.
“Its unique design and limited mintage make it a sought-after piece for coin collectors and enthusiasts of British numismatics.”
The 50p is currently listed on eBay for £10,371.86 which is more than 20,000 times its face value.
This is not the only time someone has found their 50p to be worth a small fortune.
Another rare 50p coin has sold for almost 400 times its original value after an intense bidding war. The coin sold for a huge £198.20 on eBay after receiving 20 bids.
This time, the coin was a 2009 London 2012 Olympic Games Blue Peter 50p, which came sealed in its original packaging.
The commemorative design was brought out to mark the 2012 London Olympics.
Only 19,722 of these Blue Peter branded coin packs were issued by the Royal Mint and they were never brought into circulation, reports The Sun.
It’s possible some have entered circulation since then, but they are still an ultra rare find.
The design was created by eight-year-old Florence Jackson from Bristol, who had entered her high jump-themed drawing into a Blue Peter competition.
