During Friday morning’s episode of GB News with Ellie Costello and Stephen Dixon, they announced that US tariffs will remain at 10 percent and that Donald Trump is “raising tariffs on countries yet to reach a trade deal.” US political analyst Eric Ham updated viewers on what had happened overnight and warned the new tariffs may backfire – clashing with Trump’s promise to curb inflation.
Ham shared: “Well, prices are going to get a lot higher for Americans. And while Donald Trump certainly is going to tout these higher taxes, it’s certainly going to bring an enormous amount of revenue into the US Government. Given that we have already seen inflation trickle up a bit, the question now becomes if Donald Trump can, in fact, get deals with these countries where these tariffs are looking to be much higher than they were even just a week ago.”
When asked if these higher tariffs may be short-lived, the correspondent said, “Well, yeah, you are right. Donald Trump wants these tariffs; this is something that the President has been touting for years.”
He later said: “We could see a lot of pushback, and of course, Donald Trump ran on being able to bring prices down and get a handle on inflation. But right now, with these tariffs, that’s anything but [true]. “
Ham said, “we are going to see these tariffs really take effect soon”, and claimed they are “something which we are just not going to get around”.
The President’s order on Thursday evening came after a host of tariff-related activity in recent days.
Last night, Trump also said he would extend trade negotiations with Mexico for 90 days, but other nations are facing uncertainty ahead of the looming deadline.
