Man Utd: Ruben Amorim singles out starlet who is set for huge role this season | Football | Sport

Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim has sung the praises of Patrick Dorgu following his stunning display in an emphatic 4-1 triumph over Bournemouth on Thursday. The Red Devils lit up Soldier Field in Chicago to continue their unbeaten run in pre-season and take their preparations for the new campaign to another level.

Dorgu set up Rasmus Hojlund’s opener within just eight minutes with a pinpoint cross from the left before finding the net himself less than 20 minutes later. The Danish starlet showcased pace, power, and precision to offer significant encouragement of improvement in the season ahead.

Dorgu capitalised on Mason Mount’s swift free-kick delivery and brushed aside his marker before bursting into space in the box.

He coolly slotted past Bournemouth keeper Djordje Petrovic for his maiden strike since his £25million switch from Lecce in the January transfer window.

Dorgu also produced an impressive showing against West Ham United in New Jersey the previous weekend, where United won 2-1.

In both Premier League Summer Series matches, the 20-year-old terrorised the left flank throughout, taking up the advanced positions that Amorim demands from his wing-backs.

Clearly benefiting from his debut pre-season campaign at Old Trafford, Amorim has expressed his delight with the youngster’s development, highlighting multiple aspects of his performance.

“It’s impressive,” Amorim revealed to MUTV when discussing Dorgu’s progress since his United arrival. “He is 20 years old. He looks more and more like he belongs in Manchester United.

“That is hard to do at 20 years old. He is so powerful, he is getting his technique in his game, he is defending so well, he is pressing so well, so I am really impressed with Patrick.”

The Red Devils conclude their American pre-season tour with a clash against Everton in Atlanta this Sunday.

A meeting with Fiorentina at Old Trafford rounds off the friendly schedule before Arsenal visit M16 in a blockbuster Premier League opener.

United thrashed Bournemouth without either of their major summer signings in action, which acted as another reason for positivity.

Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha are expected to be in action against Everton on Sunday, with Amorim managing both carefully.

Dorgu is bound to be in action again against the Toffees, having locked down the left wing-back spot.
