Ambulance rushes to scene at Goodwood a day after legendary horse Trueshan died | Racing | Sport

Goodwood horse Tuscan Star was taken away in a horse ambulance in another serious incident at this week’s racing festival. It comes a day after the hugely popular horse Trueshan died following a horror injury suffered in a fall during the Goodwood Cup.

Tuscan Star was riding in the 1m4f race this afternoon. The three-year-old seemed to suffer an injury midway through the race, and those watching feared the worst having grieved the death of Trueshan the day before. A horse ambulance was called and the horse was taken inside for further medical treatment. ITV Racing subsequently confirmed that the horse was okay and was heading to trainer Andrew Balding’s stables for assessments.

Fears were allayed when ITV viewers were informed that Tuscan Star was doing okay. Making his eighth career start, he has won more than £19,000 on the track.

It comes a day after the legendary Trueshan died following a freak injury during the Goodwood Cup. One of the nine-year-old’s hind legs seemed to buckle underneath his body and he broke a pastern. Jockey Hollie Doyle attempted to pull the horse up but could not do so. Trainer Alan King and veterinary staff decided to put the horse down.

King said: “It’s a hell of a shock. We have protected him all these years from fast ground for his front tendons and I was happy to run him today. He sadly shattered a hind pastern.

“He just put his foot down slightly wrong and it was a freak injury – it’s very rare. We will miss him terribly. We have organised he will be cremated and come back to Barbury Castle with some of the old superstars like Katchit and Viking Flagship.

“He won 16 from 35 races, over £2million in prize money and took us to some wonderful places. He’s a kind horse and nice person. The team at home will be devastated – I am sorry for everyone and the owners have been wonderful. To say we don’t care, you couldn’t be further from the truth. I have had more than 100 messages and I am grateful to everybody. He is gone but he will never be forgotten.”

Doyle added: “I’m just devastated. It couldn’t be any worse. He was a special, special horse, I can’t think of anything else to say. I am gutted. He’s been amazing for me, a star, and those memories we have together are some of my very best.”
