Lewis Hamilton was given a scare this week after a fan shared some ‘breaking news’ on social media. The 40-year-old has endured a tough start to his Ferrari career and is yet to secure a podium finish.
Hamilton enjoyed a scintillating career at Mercedes and won six F1 world titles with the Silver Arrows after also winning one with McLaren during his second year in the sport. The veteran made the switch to Ferrari ahead of the 2025 season after Mercedes fell behind their rivals. And his best races for his current team have come in Austria and at Silverstone, where he finished fourth on both occasions.
On Tuesday, F1 fan @mercedarri posted a graphic to X (formerly Twitter) that featured an image of Hamilton.
The top of the graphic read, “Breaking”, with Hamilton’s name appearing below his picture. The tagine at the bottom of the graphic hilariously read: “He did nothing, I just want you all to look at him.”
And the style of the post clearly caught Hamilton’s attention, with the British star replying: “Had me worried for a second.”
The original poster then went back to Hamilton as she penned: “Not me making a fool of myself in front of the GOAT.”
Hamilton’s start at Ferrari has been far from ideal, with the blockbuster star currently sixth in the F1 Drivers’ Championship.
At the Belgian Grand Prix, he finished in seventh place, with his Ferrari team-mate Charles Leclerc clinching third as the Monegasque ace ended the day behind winner Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris.
Speculation over Hamilton’s future with Ferrari has been rife this year, while Leclerc has also been linked with a move away from the Italian team.
But last month, Hamilton insisted that he wanted Ferrari to focus their efforts on developing a better car for the 2026 season.
“I don’t know what upgrades we have coming,” he explained. “We haven’t had an upgrade for quite some time. We’ll keep pushing with what we have but, before too soon, I’ll be just saying focus on next year.
“So building foundations this year, learning about the tools in terms of structure, in terms of our processes, nailing those so when we arrive next year we’ll be with the car that we really want.”
Hamilton will be back in action at the Hungarian Grand Prix this weekend, with the veteran previously winning the race a record eight times.
The F1 season then takes a break for the summer, before the drivers return to the track for the Dutch Grand Prix at the end of August.
