Quentin Tarantino's favourite movie he made – not Pulp Fiction or Django Unchained

You might think that Quentin Tarantino’s favourite movie in his own catalogue is something like Kill Bill, Django Unchained or Pulp Fiction. However, the famed movie maker didn’t name any of these popular flicks as his favourite. Rather, it is one that fans were divided on when it was first released in cinemas. He spoke about his back catalogue in a 2022 interview and named the film he thinks is his best, and it is available to stream on Netflix for viewers in the UK.

Tarantino said that his favourite film that he’s made is Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, which was released in 2019. Starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt and Margot Robbie, as well as a slew of other names that were up-and-comers at the time (such as Margaret Qualley and Austin Butler), the flick was praised by many critics, but some fans didn’t have great things to say about it. However, Tarantino believes it is his best piece of work.

In an interview with US entertainment publication Variety, he revealed that people have been asking what he thinks his best movie is. He answered: “I would say something like, ‘Oh, they’re all my children.’ I really do think ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’ is my best movie.”

Once Upon A Time In Hollywood has a Rotten Tomatoes score of 86 per cent, with an audience score lower than that at 70 per cent. While many praise the film for its “direction” and “character development”, others weren’t as happy after seeing it.

In fact, some viewers rated it poorly and called it “boring” or “too long” with its considerably long run time of two hours and 40 minutes.

One Upon A Time In Hollywood takes place in Los Angeles in the 1960s and incorporates the story of the Manson family murders, which saw a cult led by Charles Manson carry out the murder of actress Sharon Tate.

The story follows Rick, a washed-out actor, and Cliff, his stunt double, who struggle to recapture fame and success. The film does portray the Manson cult as well, but in this retelling of the story, they are not successful in killing the actress.

While some aren’t convinced by the movie, others had amazing things to say about it. One viewer shared: “This movie is really underrated, the first movie I’ve ever watched of Quentin Tarantino’s work and is really good.”

Another wrote: “Tarantino’s most relaxed, easy-going experience…until the uproarious, stupidly entertaining climax!”
