Keeping the kitchen clean and tidy is one of life’s greatest struggles. No matter how often you wipe down the surfaces or clean away any food spills, they just keep coming back again and again – and the hob is a particularly nightmarish area.
If you’ve got a glass hob, it can be even more difficult. Using the wrong cleaning products or scrubbing too hard puts you at risk of scratching the surface, which can ruin the appearance of your kitchen. Thankfully there’s an easy and cheap way to make your hob sparkle, shared by a cleaning expert on social media.
Mum and cleaning expert Neal K on TikTok says you can easy clean your glass hob with no scratches and “no fuss” by using two products you’ve probably already got in the cupboard – baking soda and white vinegar.
These are often used for household cleaning, with baking soda being great for scrubbing surfaces gently, whilst white vinegar is easily able to cut through grease and grime.
Neal has hailed this method for getting rid of those pesky burnt-on food stains, and her hack couldn’t be any easier to do.
How to clean your hob
First, wait for the hob to fully cool down before you start cleaning, in order to avoid any injury. Then, pour the baking soda “generously” over any burned or dirty areas.
Grab your white vinegar – you can use any brand – and spray it directly on to the baking soda. Neal said: “You want to make sure you’ve got enough on there that it starts bubbling and sizzling.”
Then, leave the combo to work its magic for a couple of hours for the best results. It should be completely dry when you come back to it. Use a sponge or a cloth to wipe the debris from the hob, and it should lift away without the need for any tough scrubbing.
Put a splash of water on the hob when you’re done and give it a final quick wipe down to catch any stray bits of dirt or baking soda. Then, go in with a clean microfibre cloth to dry off the hob and make sure any visible swirls are buffed away.
