Going on holiday isn’t complete without a good book or two in your bag. If you’re going to be spending hour after hour relaxing by the pool or on the beach, you’ll need an exciting read to entertain you.

Thankfully, there’s definitely no shortage of books to choose from – especially when authors like Lisa Jewell exist.  The UK-born writer is known for her nail-biting thriller novels such as The Family Upstairs and None Of This Is True. And she recently revealed the one book that’s on her holiday reading list for 2025 – a must-read if you’re a fan of a crime story.

Speaking to Woman and Home, Lisa said that the one book she is keen to read this summer is the ‘clever and gripping’ novel, Her Many Faces by Nicci Cloke.

Sharing her holiday plans, she said: “We are having two or three micro holidays. The first is in Taormina in Sicily, and the book I’ll be reading is Her Many Faces by Nicci Cloke. It’s about a poisoning at a club in London and the waitress who stands accused of it.”

The novel was only released earlier this year, but boasts an average rating of 4.4 stars out of five on Amazon, and 4.1 stars on Goodreads, with so many glowing reviews – many of which are from other fantastic crime writers such as Lucy Foley and Gillian McAllister.

It’s even been hailed as ‘the new Gone Girl’, so if you’re a fan, then you’ll want to read this.

What is Her Many Faces about?

The story of this thrilling novel follows waitress Kate who is on trial for murder after four ‘wealthy and influential members of London’s most exclusive private club’ are poisoned.

It’s cleverly told through the perspective of five men who are close to her – Kate’s father, her childhood friend, her lover, her lawyer and a journalist.

Each of these people have their own unique opinions of Kate and whether they believe she’s capable of murder or not. With her life now under intense scrutiny, it’s all she can to do prove herself and try not to unravel.

Avid readers have been full of praise for Her Many Faces, mainly noting how interesting the narrative is, as it’s told by the people closest to Kate.

One person wrote a review on Amazon: “This was a really gripping read. Fast-paced and told from five men’s perspectives of Katie, who is accused of the murder of four.

“The short chapters and changing perspectives kept the story moving with a number of twists and turns as these five narrators told five very different version of a young woman. I was kept guessing the whole way through and really enjoyed the ending.”

Another said: “This is a stunning thriller that is original and compelling. The format is exceptional and works to show themes of misogyny and how we exist through people’s eyes.”

You can buy Her Many Faces for £13.99 on Amazon or the Kindle edition costs just £3.99.
