Meghan Markle was described as the “joke of the month” after her latest podcast interview, in which she discussed “feeding the frenzy” against her. The Duchess of Sussex appeared on Emma Grede’s podcast to discuss her new podcast series and brand, As Ever.
Meghan released Confessions of a Female Founder this year, nearly two years after Spotify axed its deal with her and Prince Harry due to a lack of content. She also launched her lifestyle brand, As Ever, which offers various products, including jams, teas, flower sprinkles, and wine.
While promoting her latest business ventures on Ms Grede’s podcast in June, Meghan was asked about the moves she would take, if she could, to change the public narrative about her.
Meghan appeared to take a subtle swipe at the Royal Family by mentioning a “lie” that “can’t live forever.”
She said: “I would ask people to tell the truth. Of course, I’ve gone through those chapters and do a lot of self-work. I go, ‘What’s the why?’ It’s happening for a reason.
“My dear friend, Serena, she said to me, ‘A lie can’t live forever.’ Eight years is a long time, but it’s not forever.”
But she also appeared to dismiss criticism about her and talked about weaving the line of “owning her own narrative” against “feeding the frenzy” against her, saying:
“It’s a fine line, but it’s also setting up boundaries, which I would say to anyone, no matter what you’re going through or what your experience has been. You set boundaries of where you’re comfortable.
“It’s ok to say no, it’s ok to say, ‘I’m not comfortable answering that,’ it’s ok to pivot. And to really get to the place where you don’t feel as though you have to explain yourself.
“That comes with time, maturity, work, support surrounding you, but also to be authentic. I don’t think there’s any value, either, in being so rehearsed. Just talk.”
But a PR expert blasted her comments, saying her “cringe” appearance was the “joke of the month.”
Renae Smith, founder of The Atticism, told the Express: “They [Harry and Meghan] were dropped by Spotify, and yes, Meghan bounced back with another podcast.
“But that recent one with The Other Woman [Emma Grede]? Cringe.
“It’s been the joke of the month.
“Even if her own podcasting is a bit different, it just proves how out of touch she feels to anyone who isn’t already a fan and questions her podcasting skills.”
