Playing in the garden, lifting each other up, and walking hand in hand, it’s almost easy to forget that Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis are the King’s grandchildren.
On Tuesday, Prince William and Princess Kate shared a sweet video of their children Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, seven, to mark Prince George’s birthday. The trio were captured enjoying each other’s company as they showed their playful side in the garden – a scene many families experience worldwide.
And it is this, in my opinion as a royal expert, which makes all the difference. Because by showing their children in this way, William, 43, and Kate, 43, are showing a normal side to royal life that people can relate to.
Rather than using social media to simply share the glamorous and grand side of royal life online, they are instead showing us what life is really like for their three children away from the royal stage, which turns out to not be too dissimilar to other children across the nation.
While many may assume George, Charlotte and Louis are being raised in Palaces with massive chandeliers and staff waiting on them at all hours of the day, this is not what daily life looks like for the sweet trio.
Instead, Kate and William like to keep them grounded, with the family spending their days enjoying muddy countryside walks, fun bike rides, and simply being with each other in their four-bed cottage – a major switch up from their original Kensington Palace home.
And by showing George, Charlotte and Louis just as they are in this new video, simply three children playing outdoors, the doting parents have managed to get it just right by showing how relatable the Royal Family can be.
Although the children do know what royal privilege looks like of course, with Palaces being no shock to the system and helicopter rides being a fairly ordinary mode of transportation, they also know a more normal way of life, something unlike a lot of royals before, which is clear as day in this latest video.
And by sharing this online and showing the world the normality of the family behind closed doors, William and Kate have made the perfect move. Because at the end of the day, it is this ability to be relatable that will keep the monarchy going, especially in the midst of cost-of-living crises.
And if George, Charlotte and Louis keep up these kind of actions throughout their own royal lives, I think the monarchy will be in a better place than years before.
