An interior designer has shared the secrets you need to know for adding a huge amount of extra value to your home. These three tricks can add £15,000 to your property – and they’re only small changes which can equate to a big difference.
Paul Langley, a leading interior designer who works on high-end homes across London and the South East, says homeowners overlook simple fixes. Potential buyers could feel pulled towards your home if you make these changes.
Paul, from Quote My Wall, says you should wrap any tired furniture, doors or cupboards which need an update, instead of ripping them out and replacing them.
He says: “Vinyl wrap is one of the most effective ways to update your space quickly and affordably.
“It gives you a high-end finish — marble, matte black, woodgrain — without needing builders or new units.”
He admits it can be a tricky DIY job, especially for beginners but it’s worth looking into. This alone could add up to £8,000 to your property.
His second tip is to layer your lighting which Paul believes is one of the biggest missed opportunities in the UK.
The expert says you should swap cool white bulbs for warm tones and add table lamps and floor lamps to create ambience.
You can also use wall lights for softness and contrast and fit under-cabinet LEDs in kitchens and bathrooms.
Paul estimates this can add between £3,000 and £5,000 to your property. It not only makes a room look better — it makes people feel more relaxed and connected when they walk in.
The third and final tip is to add texture where it matters. Flat, smooth rooms often feel unfinished — even when they’re tidy.
Langley recommends adding layers of texture through soft furnishings like boucle cushions and woven throws. He also says you should add rugs under furniture to define zones.
You could also add brushed metal or wood finishes, or wall panels or wrapped features for depth.
He says this could add between £2,000 and £3,000 to your property as texture creates richness which helps a home feel warmer.
Put together, these three tricks could boost your home’s resale value by up to £15,000 — or simply make your space feel more luxurious every day.
“You don’t need to knock down walls or do a full refurb,” says Langley.
“With the right changes — like surface upgrades, better lighting and added texture — your home instantly feels more valuable.”
