Mikel Arteta firmly believes that Arsenal followed the correct processes while Thomas Partey was being investigated. The midfielder was charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault only four days after his Gunners contract expired at the end of June.
Three women reported incidents between 2021 and 2022 involving Partey, who became the subject of a Metropolitan Police investigation from July 2022 until December 2024, when the case was passed to the Crown Prosecution Service. Partey, who denies all the charges against him, remained a prominent player under Arteta throughout the process.
Facing the media in Singapore ahead of a pre-season tour of Asia, the Gunners boss was asked about how he reacted to Partey being charged. He said: “The club was very clear in its statement. There are a lot of legal matters that are very complicated so I cannot comment on any of that.”
Asked whether he felt Arsenal had followed the right processes throughout, Arteta added: “100 per cent.”
