With nearly half of Brits feeling overwhelmed by household mess, an expert has shared the simple tip you need to know for a tidy home. It’s not a huge, stressful deep clean, but a small habit that could add up to make your life easier over time.
Research shows most Brits spend an average of five hours a week cleaning their homes, so it’s easy to assume that people who always have spotless homes must spend hours scrubbing and being perfectionists. But cleaning expert Nigel Bearman, founder of domestic cleaning service Daily Poppins, says it’s not about spending more time on housework – but it’s about smarter habits.
“Tidy homes are the result of small daily routines that don’t take long, but make a huge difference over time and can be the difference between constantly feeling stressed and playing catch up, and having an effortlessly tidy and clean home, no matter how busy your schedule is.”
A huge 43% of Brits say they often feel overwhelmed by the mess in their homes, and as many of us are preparing for warmer weather, more house guests, and holidays, it’s more important than ever to reduce these stress levels and make tidying our homes easier and more manageable.
Bearman has revealed his tried and tested tip that cleaning professionals swear by, with one important one you’ll want to implement in your home.
He says you should never leave a room empty-handed; if something doesn’t belong in the room you’re in, take it with you.
Whether it’s a coffee mug, a jumper or a book, this habit keeps clutter from accumulating.
“Over time, it becomes second nature and you’re tidying without even thinking about it,” says Bearman.
It’s a simple tip but one that could make a real difference in your home if you begin to follow it.
But this isn’t the only home hack he has shared. Similarly, he says you should clean as you cook.
You can prevent chaos in the kitchen by wiping down surfaces, putting ingredients away straight away and loading the dishwasher as you go which makes tidying quicker and cleaner at the end.
Finally, he suggests following the one-minute rule, if a task takes less than 60 seconds, do it straight away.
Whether it’s hanging up a coat, putting shoes away or folding a blanket. These quick wins keep the mess from spiralling.
By following these simple tips, you can help your home stay clean and tidy and you won’t become overwhelmed with mess.
