Antler’s summer sale is in full swing, and among the discounts (with some bags now half price) is a suitcase that has become my go-to for long-haul holidays. I’ve been using the Large Single Stripe Suitcase for over a year now, and its gargantuan size means it’s perfect for longer trips, and has enough packing space to fit both mine and my partner’s clothes on shorter breaks (with plenty of space leftover for shopping).
Though it usually retails for £220, select colours of the suitcase are currently discounted by as much as £88. While I have the dark green colour, currently reduced by £44 to £176, the thistle purple has one of the best savings, discounted by 40% to £132.
Measuring 81.3 x 56 x 34.3 cm, it’s by no means a compact case (I’m 5″2 and the case comes up close to my waist), but most airlines will allow you to take it as checked luggage. So far, I’ve travelled with British Airways and Jet2 with no issues (though it’s always best to double-check your airline’s checked luggage allowances before heading to the airport).
Given its size, it’s heavier than a cabin bag, weighing 4.2kg when empty, though still a lightweight option that won’t add too much to your overall weight allowance. The hardshell is made from polypropylene and is a great option for travellers who value simplicity. The case has a minimal aesthetic with a central stripe around the body (which provides a comfortable spot to place one of the brand’s luggage straps if you want an extra layer of security) and has an embossed Antler logo on the front.
However, while the matte finish looks sleek, I noticed it had begun to look scuffed in places by the end of my first long-haul trip with the bag.
The four 360-degree spinner wheels make getting from A to B a relatively smooth process, and even when the bag is fully packed, I’ve been able to easily transport it on and off public transport. Perhaps the only downside is that the wheels don’t lock in place, so it tends to roll away from me while on the train to the airport if I’m not holding onto it.
There’s also an extendable handle to pull the bag, which you can adjust to your desired height, plus a smaller one on the side for lifting on and off the baggage belt. The suitcase has a built-in TSA-approved lock (which is fairly standard for Antler bags) that is easy to use.
The double-sided Single Stripe suitcase has a stylish taupe interior. It has a small side pocket, a zippable mesh divider and packing straps to keep clothes in place while in transit. Having multiple sections instead of just one compartment for clothes is a big plus when trying to stay organised on the go.
The large suitcase is part of a wider Single Stripe range, including cabin and medium-sized bags. All sizes are currently on sale, though prices vary depending on the colour. For example, the medium suitcase in thistle purple is reduced to £114, down from £190. The cabin-sized version of the suitcase, in pastel green, is down from £160 to £112.
You can also buy a full set of Single Stripe suitcases, which includes a large, medium and small bag. The purple set has been reduced from £570 to £342. The dark green set is also on sale, though it is slightly more expensive at £456.
