Trump explodes over ‘stupid’ Republicans when grilled on Epstein files | US | News

Donald Trump launched a scathing attack on “stupid” Republicans demanding the release of Jeffrey Epstein-related documents, claiming they are “doing the Democrats’ work.”

During an Oval Office press conference alongside Bahrain’s crown prince on Wednesday, a reporter pressed the president: “Mr. President, I know you want to move past all this intrigue over the Epstein files, but I do want to ask you to clarify something you said this morning. You said this was all a hoax. Has your attorney general told you this was a hoax? What kind of evidence [do you have]?” The news comes as a new poll has found that a majority of Americans disagree with the Trump’s decision not to release the supposed Epstein files, including Republicans.

Trump fired back: “It’s a big hoax. No, it’s not the attorney general, no. It’s a hoax started by Democrats,”.

“It’s been run by the Democrats for four years.”

“It’s all been a big hoax that’s perpetrated by the Democrats, and some stupid Republicans and foolish Republicans fall into the net, and so they try to do the Democrats’ work,” he continued.

The Republican president then proceeded to praise his own achievements, highlighting successes from his second term in the White House.

“Yesterday, as you know, I went on CNBC, and they made the statement that Trump may go down as the greatest president of all in the United States,” he declared before returning to criticise the “stupid” Republicans he believes are serving his political opponents.

“Instead of talking about the things we’ve achieved – we’ve had tremendous achievement – they’re wasting their time with a guy who obviously had some very serious problems who died three or four years ago,” Trump declared.

“I’d rather talk about the success we’ve had with the economy, the best we’ve ever had, and all of the things we’ve done, including in the Middle East,” he continued. “I mean, you see it. Instead, they want to talk about the Epstein hoax. The sad part is, it’s people that are really doing the Democrats’ work. They’re stupid people.”

Trump also drew parallels between the “Epstein hoax” and the “Russia Russia Russia hoax”, denouncing both as political manoeuvres by his opponents.

During another segment of the press conference, a journalist questioned the president about whether he would be “disowning” his supporters who have turned against him regarding the “Epstein hoax.

“This morning, you mentioned ‘past supporters’ when you were talking about the Epstein issue. Does that mean that you are effectively disowning any supporters who are now…?” the reporter began before being interrupted by Trump.

“I’ve lost a lot of faith in certain people, yeah, because they got duped by the Democrats,” the president responded.

The remarks came as the president hosted Bahrain Crown Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa at the White House on Wednesday, marking another instance of Trump’s cultivation of Arab leaders from the Gulf region, which he recently visited. The US and Bahrain have just inked an agreement that will clear the path for both nations to forge a formal civilian nuclear cooperation pact as the Trump administration accelerates efforts to bolster global energy security.

The arrangement is set to launch discussions on what’s termed a “123 agreement” and will enable the US and American firms to invest in and build nuclear energy facilities in Bahrain – an island state situated just off Saudi Arabia’s coastline with approximately 1.5 million residents.

According to Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Bahraini Foreign Minister Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani put pen to paper on the memorandum of understanding on Wednesday – shortly after Rubio finalised a comparable deal with Malaysia the previous week.

“The United States is prepared to be partner with any nation on Earth that wants to pursue a civil nuclear program that clearly is not geared towards weapons or threatening the security of their negotiations,” Rubio declared.
