Poundland has announced it is shutting three more stores, with some branches set to close in a matter of days. The budget retailer will shut sites in Port Glasgow, Stratford-upon-Avon, and Whitby, bringing the total number of confirmed closures in 2025 to 24.
The Stratford store on Bridge Street is set to shut its doors on July 21, while the branch in Whitby will close for good on September 3. Meanwhile, the Port Glasgow site, which is found in the Gallagher Shopping Park, is set to close on August 10. As previously reported, branches in St Mark’s Place, Newark and another in Pontypool are also going to be closing.
The date of the closure of the Newark store is yet to be confirmed, but the Pontypool branch will close on September 7.
The branch in the Merry Hill Shopping Centre, Dudley, is also pulling down the shutters for the final time on July 18. The bargain chain is also due to shut a site in Telford on July 19.
Another site in Cowes, the Isle of Wight, will shut down on July 30, and a third Newquay store will close on the first day of August.
Poundland has already closed 17 stores nationwide since March 2024, including in Maidenhead in Kent and Flint, Wales.
The string of closure announcements comes as the retailer, once a high street staple, was sold to investment firm Gordon Brothers.
Pepco Group, which had owned the chain since 2016, had put it up for auction in March.
Among the changes proposed by the new owners is stopping the sale of frozen food. Website sales may also be ditched, with Poundland in turn providing more seasonal and womenswear ranges.
