A major UK motorway that’s among the longest city bypasses in Europe has been named the “most boring”. Recent research by car finance company Carmoola has found that one in three Britons are losing enthusiasm for driving, citing factors like dull routes, heavy traffic, and uninspiring scenery.
The M25 tops the list as the UK’s most boring road, with the M6 and North Circular close behind. Despite occasional scenic views, the data suggests it’s the monotonous landscapes and frequent congestion that are draining drivers’ enjoyment — and in some cases, even compromising their safety.
Spread over 117 miles, M25 links motorways such as the M1, M4, A1, and the M40, making it a big part of the major road network in the UK and also one of the busiest.
The study, carried out by Censuswide, surveyed a nationally representative sample of 2,000 UK residents aged 17 and over. Data collection took place between May 20-23, 2025.
Around 17% of the people who participated in the survey claimed that the M25 is the most boring road in the country.
The RAC explained: “The M25 is one of the busiest roads in the UK with hundreds of thousands of users travelling on it every day.
