The Princess of Wales was joined by her daughter Princess Charlotte at the Wimbledon Men’s Singles Finals last July. The mother-daughter duo’s outing marked only the second time Kate had been pictured in 2024, after her cancer diagnosis a few months prior.
Following the difficult few months, Kate had expressed feeling “guilty” about the amount of time she was spending with her children whilst undergoing cancer treatment, with an expert referring to her Wimbledon appearance with her second-born as a “special treat” and a “long-held promise”.
Speaking to The Sun after their appearance last summer, royal expert Ingrid Seward said: “It was a long-held promise that Kate would take Charlotte to the finals as a special treat. Kate felt guilty she hadn’t been able to spend as much time as she would have liked to be with the kids because of her exhaustion after her treatment.”
Discussing Charlotte’s love for tennis, she added: “Charlotte has always loved tennis, and mum Kate took her to Hurlingham when she was quite young to play tennis there. Tennis is a big family thing on both sides.”
Ms Seward also added: “It is a super special day for Kate to be able to share it with Charlotte, and much more fun for her to have Charlotte there and explain to her the details of what is going on.
“It’s also a distraction so she does not feel she is full and centre of everyone’s attention.”
Ingrid added that Charlotte was likelt there to “deflect things away” from Kate, too, and that the royal was “determined to be at Wimbledon on finals day if she possibly could”.
Opening up about her love of Wimbedon on the 2017 documentary, Sue Barker: Our Wimbledon, Kate described annual sporting tournament as “a quintessential part of the English summer”.
Known for her love of sports, she admitted that Wimbledon was “very much part” of her childhood.
The royal, who announced she was in remission earlier this year, has not made an appearance at this year’s Wimbledon yet.
