Taps will be limescale-free in ‘3 minutes’ if you use 1 bathroom staple

There’s nothing worse than finding an unpleasant white crust on your taps. It can be hard to remove, often leaving bathroom and kitchen sinks looking dirty. This white, chalky substance is likely limescale, which is caused by hard water evaporating and leaving behind mineral deposits.

Removing limescale from taps can be difficult as using the wrong product can damage the material of the tap. However, there are products out there specifically targeted at removing limescale from fixtures without causing them damage.

Fans of cleaning sensation Mrs Hinch said the best way to remove limescale from taps was to use a spray called Viakal.

The popular method was mentioned after Facebook user Jetexa Jet Prema asked the group, Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips, “how to get limescale off taps. [I’ve] tried everything but nothing seems to work.”

Viakal was mentioned by multiple Facebook users who claimed it leaves taps looking “like new”.

Lesley Turner said: “Viakal. Spray on, leave 15 to 20 minutes, rub all over, rinse off then dry using a microfibre cloth. Repeat if necessary.”

Dianne Tinnion commented: “Viakal. Brilliant. In any supermarket or B&M. Spray, leave for three minutes, wipe off with a damp cloth. Taps look like new.”

Another social media user said it was their “favourite product”.

Viakal can be bought online and from most local supermarkets. It £3.50 from Sainsbury’s, £3 from Waitrose and £2.85 from Tesco.

The product claims to “not only remove limescale, soap scum and water marks, but also prevent limescale return thanks to its anti-droplet Technology”.

Other suggestions from Mrs Hinch fans included using white vinegar or a 2p coin.

Mark Roberts wrote: “Rub it with a 2p coin.”

Joy Saywell said: “White vinegar soaked cotton wool wrapped in cling film. Leave it there for as long as necessary.”

Prices are correct at the time of writing.
