Last chance to stream ‘spine chilling’ horror that ‘lives up to the hype’

Horror fans have just days left to stream a highly acclaimed film that won the Best Original Screenplay Oscar in 2018.

Originally released in 2017, Get Out is available to stream on Prime Video until Tuesday, July 29.

The film marked an outstanding directorial debut for Jordan Peele, who bagged the Academy Award for his script. It follows the seemingly simple story of Chris Washington, an African American man who visits his white girlfriend Rose Armitage’s family for the weekend.

What starts out as an understandly nerve-wracking visit quickly turns sinister, as Chris uncovers dark secrets about his partner’s family.

The chilling story stars London-born actor Daniel Kaluuya in the leading role, with Allison Williams portraying his on-screen love interest. The rest of the ensemble features The Handmaid’s Tale star Bradley Whitford and Oscar nominee Catherine Keener, playing Rose’s parents, Dean and Missy.

At its core, Get Out explores complex themes of race relations in the United States. It delves into heavy topics such as slavery, alongside more modern ideas like cultural appropriation.

Upon its premiere, the thriller received overwhelming critical praise, earning a stellar 98% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

The critics’ consensus justifies the top-rating, stating: “Funny, scary, and thought-provoking, Get Out seamlessly weaves its trenchant social critiques into a brilliantly effective and entertaining horror/comedy thrill ride.”

Viewers were equally charmed by the Peele film, although many admit they felt uneasy while watching it.

Sharing their verdict, one Google Reviewer said: “The nervousness and chill down the spine is built up brilliantly. When the real nerve-wracking scenes came up, I had a ugly feeling in my stomach and I couldn’t move.”

A second fan avidly recommended: “This movie should be on top of your list if you want to watch a thriller.”

They expanded: “It has such great performances by each actor. It keeps you on the edge of your seat right from the start. I just watched this movie and letting it sink in.. It’s just amazing.”

Meanwhile, an IMDb viewer raved:”High expectations were not only met but also exceeded.”

“Can totally see why it was as well received as it was, though can also see why it has divided audiences on here […] Get Out is among the better films of 2017 and does live up to the hype,” the same fan added.

Yet another satisfied moviegoer simply penned: “Best horror I’ve seen in a while.”

Get Out is streaming now on Amazon Prime Video.
