But grass maintenance is an often-overlooked job for gardeners. Over the winter, low light levels, lots of rain and bouts of ice and frost or even snow can pile up problems for lawns and grass, which can compound to weaken it before the warmer conditions return.
Many of us will rush outside during the first warm weeks summer, then scratch our heads wondering why the lawn is looking so patchy and tired. By then, it’s much harder to turn things around, so by making an effort now, you can get a lush, green lawn ready for when the hot weather is back.
One way you can boost your lawn without spraying chemicals is by sprinkling coffee grounds across the grass.
Nitrogen-rich coffee grounds can either be sprinkled directly on the lawn or mixed with water.
The minerals in coffee can boost your grass, without burning it or damaging it, and without causing harm to the wildlife that depend on it, including worms, moths butterflies and birds, all of which can be affected by chemical fertiliser sprays but won’t mind a splash of fresh java.
