Sir Paul McCartney's unexpected move in interview ranks him among the 'best' celebrities

Sir Paul McCartney once made a surprising move during a chat with a student journalist, who ranked him “up there with the best”. In a recent tell-all article, journalist Katie Hind, who’s met more celebrities than she’s “had hot dinners”, dished the dirt on who she thinks are some of the “rudest stars” in showbiz.

Yet, Katie also confessed that celebrities are “often truly lovely”, highlighting how much she liked Christine and Frank Lamaprd, along with TV hosts Bradley Walsh and Holly Willoughby. After she detailed some of her less-favourable encounters with the rich and famous, Katie shared a titbit about the Beatles legend Sir Paul McCartney, whom she described as “surprisingly earthbound.”

She wrote in the Mail on Sunday: “But they’re not all bad – and Sir Paul McCartney is up there with the best. When I was a student journalist at the University of East Anglia, he came to promote a poetry book, so I called his PR to see if he’d talk.”

She continued: “Having already turned down the local press, Sir Paul seemed in no mood to oblige, but he graciously granted my student newspaper an interview.

“When I met him at a Norwich hotel, he was surprisingly earthbound for such a stratospheric star, and even let his dinner go cold as we talked.”

The 83-year-old musician recently grabbed headlines when he joined Bruce Springsteen for an unexpected duet during a concert at the Anfield football stadium in Paul’s hometown of Liverpool, according to the BBC.

It marked his first performance in Liverpool since his 2018 Freshen Up Show and the first time he graced the stage at Anfield since Liverpool was honoured with the European Capital of Culture title in 2008.

In other developments, Sir Paul disclosed his three top albums in response to a fan’s query on his website. A fan by the name of Alex enquired about any albums that evoke “certain periods” for the legendary artist.

Paul responded: “My favourite albums by other people tend to be: Music from Big Pink by The Band, Pet Sounds by the Beach Boys, and Harvest by Neil Young. They are the three classics that I love to listen to, and they all remind me of certain times in my life. When I perform my own songs, the great thing is that they often bring back memories of recording them.”

He also mentioned that this can “often entail” thoughts of John and George in the studio, which he referred to as “sweet memories.”

This comes after Paul’s recent homage to Beach Boys icon Brian Wilson, who sadly passed away earlier this month at the age of 82.

Reflecting on the late musician, Paul described him as having a “mysterious sense of musical genius” that rendered his music “so achingly special”.

He concluded by expressing his love for Brian and feeling “privileged” to have been in the presence of his “bright shining light”.
